A flange nut is a hexagonal nut with an integrated washer-like flange at its base. The flange distributes the clamping load over a larger area, reducing the need for a separate washer and preventing damage to the mating surface. Some flange nuts also feature serrations on the flange face to resist loosening from vibration.
